New Hard Drive and Memory for a Compaq

Ready your torx driver!
This How To will show you how
to easily install a new hard
drive and memory in your Compaq 12XL500 laptop.
The patient...
Flip the laptop over and remove
4 Torx T8 screws...
Popup the front panel cover of
the laptop. I lifted it on one side first, then the middle and
the other side popped up to reveal the hard drive...
Hard drive is right there. Remove
3 Torx T8 screws so the drive can be removed. You also need to
slide the cable off.
Removing the cable...
Once the drive is out, you'll
need to remove the 2 side rails that hold the drive in place.
These also have Torx screws. 2 on each side. Remove these and
install them on your new laptop hard drive...
Put everything back together
(just follow the above steps in reverse) and slip the laptop
on it's back.
The panel on the left pictured
below is the memory module that comes with the Compaq laptop.
Leave that alone and focus on the one on the right...
Remove the panel for the expansion
memory slot...
Slide in the memory chip making
sure the clips seat properly...
Pop the cover back on, screw
down the memory cover and that's it.
Boot up the PC and check the
memory as the laptop boots up.
