Outlook Express Setup for accessing
the NewsGroups - Page 1 of 3
Step 1:
Contact your ISP or internet provider and find out what the settings
are to access the newsgroups through them. I have Pacific Bell
DSL so my setting are as follows:
>>> Open Outlook Express
and click on Tool and then Accounts...
Step 2:
The accounts dialog box will pop up... Click on the News tab
at the top and you'll see the following screen.Click on the Add
button...
Click on News...
Enter in the Name you want to
be known as. This name will be on all the messages (if you decide
to post a message) you post in any newsgroup. We'll use Jim Fred
as an example. Click the Next button when you're done...
The next window is the email
address you wish to leave for others to respond to you personally.
If I were you I wouldn't give out your REAL email address here
kids. You'll get flooded with spam mail from everything and everyone
out there.
Go to Hotmail.com
and generate a email address for people to respond to. You don't
really have to use any email address if you don't want to because
Outlook Express has the option in it's prefrences for you to
opt out of any email responces from other newsgroup users.
Once you've got that going come back here and continue...
My Internet provider's news setting
is news.pacbell.net. Enter your providers settings here...
My providers settings require
an additional step for accessing the newsgroups. They want a
Log On ID using an assigned name and password for accessing the
newsgroups. Some Internet providers have a differant log on name
and password from your internet dial up logon name and password.
Pacbell's log on name for the newsgroups is the same as their
log on name to access the internet. At any rate, you'll have
to click on the checkbox at the bottom of the screen ' My
news server requires me to log on ' if your service requires
this.
Proceed to Step
2a if your service doesn't
require it...
On the following screen, enter
in your newsgroup log on account information...
Step 2a:
You're done setting up you're account partner.
Click here to proceed to Step 3:
Setting up your newsgroups...
